French class Paris 7
Looking for a French as a Foreign Language teacher in Paris's 7th arrondissement?
Whether you live, work, or simply love exploring this elegant and grand, yet discreet part of Paris, our French courses, designed especially for expats and their families, will help you grow your language skills and confidence.

The 7th arrondissement: understated grandeur... within reach
A Left Bank "Diamond" of sweeping views and hidden corners, of grand history and quiet moments.
The 7th is postcard Paris, shaped like a diamond. It's where the Eiffel Tower appears suddenly between buildings, where the golden dome of Les Invalides glows at the end of Avenue de Breteuil, and where Pont Alexandre III sparkles perfectly in line with the esplanade. Everything feels intentionally placed: wide, open, almost ceremonial.
Yet beneath that composed elegance, we can feel a true neighborhood spirit. We hear it on Rue Cler in the Gros Caillou area, where footsteps echo on cobblestones as locals do their shopping. We feel it on Thursday mornings at the Saxe-Breteuil market, between vibrant stalls and exchanged smiles. Village life still thrives here, quietly, but unmistakably.
A little further on, we slip into the Saint-Thomas d'Aquin neighborhood: quiet streets, understated facades, and a blend of ministers, writers, and gallery owners. This is a hushed, intellectual Paris. We pick up a flavorful treat at La Grande Épicerie and enjoy it on a quiet bench, nestled between vine-covered hedges. It's the kind of place where we might stumble upon Gainsbourg's house, a pagoda (reopening soon, we hope!), or a charming American bookstore. And we're always drawn to peek inside Deyrolle, a cabinet of curiosities where nature becomes a museum.
On weekends, the 7th is one of our favorite spots to explore by bike. The streets are broad and nearly empty. We pass one embassy, then another, like a world tour by bicycle. The Rodin Museum lures us in, even just for a stroll in the garden. And if we go as far as the Plans-Reliefs Museum, we feel like kids again, marveling at miniature models from the age of Louis XIV.
Beneath the surface calm, we sense real vibrancy: the free spirit of the Impressionists at Orsay, a concert at the Maison de l'Amérique latine, a sidewalk chat between members of parliament, a prestigious school hidden just around the corner… The 7th is full of surprises, cultural gems, and hidden ties between power, knowledge, and art.
At novexpat, we love teaching here because the district also teaches us: to slow down, to observe, to dare to approach what seems out of reach. This is a neighborhood that doesn't show off: it reveals itself. All it takes is a curious eye, an open ear… and it invites us into its world.

French Lessons in the 7th: A Perfect Excuse to Explore the Neighborhood
In the midst of busy schedules, daily errands, and the challenges of expat life, it can be hard to make space for yourself. But taking French lessons is more than just language learning – it's also a chance to slow down, connect, and immerse yourself in the rhythm of Paris.
Why not extend your lesson into a little urban escape?
Wander a side street, admire an architectural detail, or step into an offbeat boutique or museum. Every corner of the 7th arrondissement offers a slice of Paris worth discovering.
We're passionate about this city, and we love sharing our favorite addresses, secret spots, and daily rituals with our learners. Because learning French should be more than grammar and verbs: it should feel like a real immersion in the Parisian way of life. We're here to help you fully experience your French moment and truly feel at home in Paris.
And until your next French class? We've already picked out three magical spots to explore in Paris 7. Honestly, it was tough to choose from our long list of favorites!
Some places comfort, gather, and uplift - the American Library, nestled in the heart of the 7th for over a century, does all three. For English-speaking families, it's a landmark - even a lifeline. People come for its incredible English collection (the largest in Europe), of course, but also for the unmatched atmosphere: warm, dynamic, curious.
Thought-provoking talks, literary meetups, kids' workshops, community events... the calendar is packed. It's more than a library - it's a cultural hub, a space for sharing and discovery. The staff are lovely, always helpful and attentive. You'll find expat families, literature lovers, high schoolers, retirees - a diverse, kind-hearted community.
It's a place we wholeheartedly recommend… and one that's hard to leave.
10 Rue du Général Camou, 75007 Paris
We hesitated to include this place - it's deeply personal. But whether or not you believe isn't really the point: the Chapel of the Miraculous Medal is an extraordinarily beautiful, quietly powerful place that leaves an impression on even the most rational among us.
Tucked away just steps from the bustle of Bon Marché, this chapel is almost secret. Walk through a courtyard, down a short alley… and suddenly, there it is - glowing, with Art Nouveau lines and golden light. It's stunning. Over 5000 visitors come daily, pilgrims, tourists, regulars. Yet despite the numbers, a deep, reverent silence fills the space. You breathe differently here. You pause. You feel peace.
And often, after that quiet moment, you drift into the nearby Catherine Labouré garden - named for the nun behind this story - a serene little haven that stays with you long after.
140 Rue du Bac, 75007 Paris
Did you know? The 7th is home to one of the world's great hubs of international cooperation: UNESCO. This iconic building, near École Militaire, is where nations come together to build a more just and enlightened world - through education, culture, science, and dialogue.
We're lucky to work with some of its attachés and delegates (though… shhh, that's our little secret!). What we can tell you is how amazing the public events are: surprising concerts in the auditorium, inspiring talks, and exhibitions that often leave a mark. You'll hear languages from every corner of the globe, meet fresh ideas and passionate voices.
We recommend signing up for their newsletter so you don't miss a thing. Though UNESCO belongs to the world, it remains a surprisingly hidden gem in Paris's cultural scene.

Who am I?
Bonjour, I'm Fabienne Defaux!
I'm a French as a Foreign Language teacher and a true Paris enthusiast – especially when it comes to the 7th arrondissement a calm, green, and spacious gem - ideal for expat families.
For over 14 years, I've been helping expats and their families settle into life in Paris. In 2017, together with my husband Pierre-Yves, I founded novexpat with one clear goal: to offer personalized French lessons designed for the real lives of expats – so they can navigate daily life in Paris with more ease, confidence, and joy.
At novexpat, real life is our classroom. Our courses are built around the everyday situations you face – at work, at school, in the market, or on a café terrace – so you can start speaking and understanding French naturally, right from the start.
What do our learners often tell us?
✨ That each lesson immediately helps them better understand their surroundings, connect more easily with locals, and feel more at home – whether chatting with shopkeepers at Bon Marché, ordering a chocolate soufflé at l'Affable, discussing Aristide Maillol's sculptures, shopping on rue Cler, catching up with other parents at the Lennen Bilingual School, or participating in a work meeting with French-speaking colleagues.
With a team of 10+ experienced teachers and a deeply human approach, we design a learning experience that adapts to your goals, schedule, and lifestyle – and yes, even your neighborhood!
Throughout your journey, I stay personally involved to make sure everything fits: the right teacher, the right pace, and the right approach – just for you.
