French class Paris 6
Looking for a French as a Foreign Language teacher in Paris's 6th arrondissement?
Whether you live, work, or simply love exploring this inspiring and iconic part of Paris, our French courses, designed especially for expats and their families, will help you grow your language skills and confidence.

The 6th arrondissement: wandering, culture and elegance in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés
A neighborhood full of contrasts, inspiration, and hidden corners — the perfect place to learn freely and joyfully.
On the Left Bank of Paris, the 6th arrondissement has the charm of a village — if that village were home to philosophers, gallery owners, skaters, lost tourists, lifelong Parisians, and students debating the meaning of life over a café crème. That's the magic here: elegant surroundings mingling with delightful surprises at every corner.
We often begin at the Luxembourg Gardens, one of our favorite green havens in Paris. We love to stroll its grand French-style paths, settle into one of the iconic green chairs for a peaceful moment, watch a tennis match, or simply listen to children's laughter echoing from vintage swings. Tucked in a quiet corner is the small Statue of Liberty, nestled among centuries-old trees — a lively yet tranquil spot, perfect for starting the day or taking a break after an intense class.
Leaving the park via rue Férou, lined with elegant Haussmann buildings, we pass the famous Bateau Ivre wall. Time seems to slow on this street. There's a lightness, a stillness — a poetic air that makes you forget you're in the heart of Paris. Just a few steps further, place Saint-Sulpice and its grand fountain gently lead us back to city life, surrounded by independent bookshops, café terraces, and the quiet majesty of the city's largest church.
Then there's Saint-Germain-des-Prés, with its charming streets — rue Bonaparte, rue Jacob, place de Fürstenberg, rue Saint-Sulpice, rue de Buci... This is the epicenter of French bon goût, home to design icons, hidden galleries and beloved addresses. It's a place full of ideas at every price point — or sometimes, just a beautiful emotion to take home.
We also love the more vibrant, mischievous side of the area: the lively vibe of rue des Canettes, late-night conversations on terraces near the Saint-Germain market, the cobblestones of Cour du Commerce Saint-André, indie cinemas like Saint-André-des-Arts, and hidden gems like the Zadkine Museum or the Delacroix Museum. These are places we always recommend to our learners.
And for a bit of shopping, head to rue de Rennes. It's rare in Paris to see such harmony between modern boutiques, Haussmann architecture, and historic charm. We like to stroll here, browse the windows, drift back toward Saint-Germain, and end our walk in front of the Institut de France, gazing over the Seine and quietly saluting the Academicians, the guardians of French arts, letters, and science.
At novexpat, we love teaching in this arrondissement because it inspires us to slow down, observe, speak, and take it all in. Learning French here means entering a Paris made of fine details, quiet detours, well-kept secrets… and never a dull moment.

French Lessons in the 6th: A Perfect Excuse to Explore the Neighborhood
In the midst of busy schedules, daily errands, and the challenges of expat life, it can be hard to make space for yourself. But taking French lessons is more than just language learning – it's also a chance to slow down, connect, and immerse yourself in the rhythm of Paris.
Why not extend your lesson into a little urban escape?
Wander a side street, admire an architectural detail, or step into an offbeat boutique or museum. Every corner of the 6th arrondissement offers a slice of Paris worth discovering.
We're passionate about this city, and we love sharing our favorite addresses, secret spots, and daily rituals with our learners. Because learning French should be more than grammar and verbs: it should feel like a real immersion in the Parisian way of life. We're here to help you fully experience your French moment and truly feel at home in Paris.
And until your next French class? We've already picked out three magical spots to discover in Paris 6. Let the adventure begin!
Just walking past its colorful façade, you know you're in front of something special. L'Arlequin is one of those beloved Parisian cinemas: independent, a little mythical, steeped in stories. Opened in 1934, it was once owned by Jacques Tati, who premiered his color version of Jour de fête here—a French classic we never tire of showing.
We come for the comfy red seats, the grand vintage auditorium… and of course, the films. L'Arlequin showcases the best of French cinema: bold, witty, always well-curated. And what we especially love: some screenings are offered with English subtitles thanks to Lost in Frenchlation. A true plus for our learners who want to improve their French without missing a moment of the story.
A lively cultural space rooted in the neighborhood, perfect for an evening outing or a rainy Sunday. And every time, we leave feeling like we've seen Paris in a new light… on the big screen.
76 Rue de Rennes, 75006 Paris
We've seen plenty of exhibitions, but some stick with us – and they're often here, at the Musée du Luxembourg. Nestled between the gilded gates of the garden and the elegant facades of the 6th, this human-scale museum only hosts temporary exhibits… but what exhibits! Turner, Dürer, Vivian Maier, Frida Kahlo, and unexpected themes that always take us somewhere new.
It's a place we particularly love: not too big, but rich, dense, and thought-provoking without being intimidating. And then there's the rare Parisian luxury: stepping out from a gallery full of masterpieces directly into the Luxembourg Gardens. We carry the experience with us, walking among the flowerbeds, sitting by a fountain to discuss what we've just seen. The art continues outside.
19 Rue de Vaugirard, 75006 Paris
Sometimes we forget Paris offers us such grand places… that are still completely accessible. The Bibliothèque Mazarine is a hidden gem – the oldest public library in France, tucked inside the Palais de l'Institut. As soon as you step through the door, time slows down.
People come here to read, study, or soak in the almost sacred stillness. The reading room is breathtaking: antique woodwork, high ceilings, soft light, and thousands of old books climbing the walls. Every time, we feel transported.
You'll find focused students, absorbed researchers, and then us, with a novel or some notes, just grateful to be here. It's more than a place of knowledge: it's an experience. A peaceful escape from the noise, free and open to all… and oh-so Parisian.
23 Quai de Conti, 75006 Paris

Who am I?
Bonjour, I'm Fabienne Defaux!
I'm a French as a Foreign Language teacher and a true Paris enthusiast – especially when it comes to the 6th arrondissement with its wonderfully inspiring and enchanting setting.
For over 14 years, I've been helping expats and their families settle into life in Paris. In 2017, together with my husband Pierre-Yves, I founded novexpat with one clear goal: to offer personalized French lessons designed for the real lives of expats – so they can navigate daily life in Paris with more ease, confidence, and joy.
At novexpat, real life is our classroom. Our courses are built around the everyday situations you face – at work, at school, in the market, or on a café terrace – so you can start speaking and understanding French naturally, right from the start.
What do our learners often tell us?
✨ That each lesson immediately helps them better understand their surroundings, connect more easily with locals, and feel more at home – whether they're commenting on a play at the Odéon Theatre, ordering choucroute at Brasserie Lipp, chatting with friends at a café on rue de Buci, shopping on rue de Rennes, getting décor advice from an antique shop on rue Jacob, or participating in a work meeting with French-speaking colleagues.
With a team of 10+ experienced teachers and a deeply human approach, we design a learning experience that adapts to your goals, schedule, and lifestyle – and yes, even your neighborhood!
Throughout your journey, I stay personally involved to make sure everything fits: the right teacher, the right pace, and the right approach – just for you.
